Karakterisasi Permukaan Multilapis Krom Dan Tembaga Pada Baja Karbon Hasil Proses Elektroplating
Daftar Isi:
- This research aims to fix cracks on the surface of the chrome and create a new layer with Electroplating method using low carbon steel ST 40 as a substrate with a diameter of 16 mm with a thickness of 3 mm. The coating was done in two steps, namely a layer of chrome and copper layers. Chrome plating is done by using the composition of the electrolyte solution chrome for every liter of distilled water which contains chromic acid ( 250 gr / l ), sulfuric acid ( 2.5 gr / l ) and KCN ( 10 gr / l ). Cu plating was done by using a liquid copper CuSO4 ( 200 grams / liter distilled water ) and copper as cathode. Layer chrome electroplating process was done using DC current source with a voltage of 6 volts with a time of immersion for 1 hour, while the copper electroplating process is done by using voltage 1.8 Volt and with variations in immersion time for 1, 1.5, 2, 3, and 3.5 hours. Characterization of products is done by testing a micro photograph to determine the thickness of the coating. Hardness testing is done by using a micro Vickers machine. Testing of wear resistance coating products was conducted using Ogoshi machine for 30 seconds with a load of 19.08 kg. The results of micro photograph of the cross-sectional surface showed that with increasing time of immersion for 1, 1.5, 2, 3, and 3.5 hours, the thickness of the layer of Cu increased of 48.1 um to 74.3 um. Test hardness test of the Cu showed that the increase of the dip time increased the hardness which ranged between 126.133 HV, but followed by a decrease to 58.4 HV. The wear area of the Cu surface increased in the range between 4,48 x 10-06 and 6.41 x 10-06 (〖mm〗^2/kg). Keywords: Carbon steel, electroplating, layer Cr dan Cu, thickness, hardness.
