  • Periodontitis is a disease by a bacterial infection that affects all parts of the periodontal tissues. Treatment for periodontitis usually with a mechanical therapy, and antibiotic use. The use of antibiotics there are bacteria that survive thus a need to increase the inhibitory antibiotics. Increasing doses of antibiotics feared could cause toxicity that need another alternative to natural materials that are safer. One such natural ingredient is garlic, which contains an antibacterial such as allicin, alkaloids and tannins. This study aimed to determine the effect of garlic extract on ciprofloxacin against Fusobacterium nucleatum increase in growth inhibition. The method used is by measuring the diameter of the transparent zone around the wells were formed after the petri dish of bacteria Fusobacterium nucleatum was treated with antibiotics which have been given an extra with varying concentrations of garlic extract with a concentration of 2%, 4% and 8%. The results showed the average inhibition zone of antibiotic without the addition of garlic extract of 9.53 mm, the average diameter of inhibition zone of antibiotic with the addition of 2% extract concentration of 10.77 mm, a concentration of 4% 12.34 mm and the concentration of 8 % of 13.79 mm. Anova statistical test results obtained by the result of p = 0.00 (p <0.05) The results showed increasing concentration of garlic extract significant effect on the increase in growth inhibition of Fusobacterium nucleatum. LSD post hoc test showed p = 0.00 (p <0.05), which means that any additional increase in the concentration of garlic extract on antibiotics followed by an increase in growth inhibition of Fusobacterium nucleatum significantly. Keywords: antibiotics, bacteria Fusobacterium nucleatum, garlic extract, growth inhibition.
