- ABSTRAC Muhammad Hashim Ash'ari was a scholar who is known among boarding schools in particular and the Muslim community at large. Biographies of Muhammad Hashim Ash'ari can not be released by Islamic Boarding School Tebuireng and independence of the Republic of Indonesia. Because of Islamic Boarding School he began his career struggle and jihad propaganda, so these figures and boarding schools known to the wider community. Wisdom which he passes into a role model for other Islamic boarding school. The formulation of the problem in this paper begins with the question; how the propaganda struggle and Jihad Muhammad Hashim Ash'ari and how the activity and contribution in propaganda and jihad. Then, for the goal is to understand his thoughts in propaganda and jihad, so it can be a model for the next generation and society in general. And can be learned about the idea of preaching and jihad struggles in establishing activities Jam'iyah Nahdlatul Ulama, the boarding school, mass organizations, and activities in the jihad movement against both the Dutch and the Japanese invaders. Struggle based on keiklasan sacrifice in defending the interests of religion and ideals. Methods This study uses primary data source that examines the writings of Muhammad Hashim Ash'ari, and the secondary source data. These two sources are obtained using literature study (library research). Therefore, this research includes bibliographic and qualitative research types, purely library research (library research) with historical-philosophical approach. The data obtained will be analyzed sequentially and interactionist which consists of three stages: 1) Reduction of data, 2) Presentation of data, 3) Withdrawal conclusion or verification. Purification of Islam in aqidah " Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah " and using one of the schools of the four recognized schools , in religious organizations Nahdlatul Ulama , is the material part of propaganda and jihad developed. As well as the political field, he helped the Indonesian people against the invaders and colonialism by forming a semi-military organization; Hezbollah forces, the way of Allah, Mujahideen, and give fatwa and call for Jihad to students and the public to fight for Islam and independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
