Therefore, health education is needed to increase the students’ knowledge and attitude in maintaining health. The purpose of this study is to discover the influences of health education towards the increment of students’ knowledge and attitude in choosing healthy snacks. This study uses pre - experiment method with the design of pre test – post test control group. Samples were taken of 30 respondents of experimental group and 30 respondents of control group from fourth grade until sixth grade of Muhammadiyah Elementary School 16th Karangasem Surakarta by purposive sampling technique. The obtained samples were measured according to level of knowledge and attitude in snacks selection by using a questionnaire developed by the researchers based on the theory reviews. Results were analyzed by using t-test. In order to find out the pre test and post test, researchers used the paired sample t-test which obtained p-value = 0.000 (<0.05) for the knowledge and attitude variables of experimental group which means health education had intervention effect. Furthermore, to evaluate the difference of value in the post test, researchers used the independent t-test which obtained p-value = 0.000 (<0.05) for the knowledge and attitude variables, which shows that there are differences in students’ knowledge and attitude level after the post-test among the experimental and control group. Researchers found out that the students of experimental group have higher knowledge and attitude level than its counterpart after being given the health education. Hence it could be concluded that health education had influence towards the increment of students’ knowledge and attitude in choosing healthy snacks. Expected future researchers added other learning methods, in order to obtain an increase in knowledge and a better attitude. Keywords: health education, knowledge, attitude, snacks, student.
