- Diabetes mellitus is a complex disease that affects all the vital organs in the body. It has been known that diabetic mellitus has many complications. One of the complications that often arise is diabetic foot wound. Diabetic foot wound could be influenced by five indicators: neuropathy, impaired circulation, a history of previous ulcers, deformities, and knowledge about foot care. Foot ulcer of diabetes mellitus may affect 15% of the complications of diabetes mellitus. General Hospital in the area Dr.Moewardi diabetic foot ulcer has increased by 100% in 2014 compared to 2013. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of risk ulcers in patients with diabetes mellitus in Dr. Moewardi Hospital. This research was a descriptive exploratory study. The study population were patients with diabetes mellitus type 1 and type 2 that examined in Internist Department for outpatient who met the inclusion criteria. The sample used were 43 respondents. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling. The instrument used was a checklist, adapted from Registeres Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) 2004, and a structured interview. The analysis used in this research was univariate (descriptive analysis). This study showed that respondents experienced a high risk of ulcers ware 53.5% and those with low risk ware 46.5%. This study showed 51.2% of respondents had good knowledge of deabrtic foot care and 48.8% had poor knowledge. Conclusions from this research was that most patients were at high-risk category, and most of the respondents had the good level of knowledge. This was possible because of the disobedience of respondents in foot care, despite having good knowledge about foot care. The low compliance in foot care may increase the risk of complications of diabetes. Keywords: Diabetes mellitus, diabetic ulcers, the risk of ulcers, foot care knowledge
