- ABSTRACT Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease that took place progressively. Several factors play an important role in the development of diabetes mellitus cases, advances in technology led to changes in lifestyle such as human activities become less mobile and changes in behavior and diet. In 2013 the community in Sukoharjo many suffer from diabetes mellitus. In the last year of diabetes mellitus in the Region Sukorhajo revolve around 5138 people, divided in several regions. Kartasura region is one area that many cases of diabetes mellitus in the Sukoharjo. In the region in the month of September to November 2013 there were 615 cases of diabetes mellitus. In most Kartasura regions diabetes mellitus is Gonilan village. In the village there Gonilan about 45 people who suffer from diabetes mellitus in 2013. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes with dietary compliance diabetes mellitus in patients with diabetes mellitus in the village Gonilan Kartasura Sukoharjo. This research is quantitative research design correlation analytic cross sectional research. Sampling by using total sampling totaling 45 people. Data analysis techniques used by the analysis of Chi-Square (X2) with Fisher’s test as an alternative. The results showed that the majority most respondents have a good level of knowledge, and a positive attitude and have a relatively docile obedience. The conclusion from this study is that there is a significant relationship between the level of knowledge with dietary adherence (p = 0.001), and there is a significant correlation between attitude with dietary adherence in patients with diabetes mellitus in the Gonilan village (p = 0.001).
