  • SELF-CONCEPT RELATIONSHIP WITH DEPRESSION IN PATIENTS WITH RENAL FAILURE WHO UNDERGO HAEMODIALYSIS By : Tutik Rahayu ABSTRACT Kidney disease is a health problem that is increasing every year. Most patients with renal failure who undergo back haemodialysis can not move and are depressed and potentially experiencing changes in self-concept. Based on the results of preliminary studies in Surakarta Islamic Hospital to 5 kidney failure patients undergo haemodialysis, there were 3 patients who expressed despair, helpless and can not do heavy activity because of tiredness. The research objective was to determine the relationship of the self-concept with depression of renal failure patients undergo haemodialysis. Desain kind of research is analytic survey with cross sectional approach. Samples were patients with kidney failure who undergo haemodialysis in Surakarta Islamic Hospital as many as 43 patients. Sampling using total sampling. Instrument self-concept studies using questionnaires and depression of the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Analysis of research data to determine whether there is a relationship with the self-concept of depression in patients with renal failure who underwent haemodialysis using Pearson Correlation test. The survey results revealed 24 respondents (55.8%) had a poor self-concept, and 19 respondents (44.2%) have a good self- concept. There are 23 respondents (53.5%) experienced depression and 20 respondents (46.5%) is not depressed. Results of the test of Pearson correlation of data obtained rvalue -0.691. P value of 0.000 was concluded there is a significant relationship between self-concept to depression. The size of the relationship seen from the correlations coefficient of 0.691 these results include the interval from 0.59 to 0.69 so that it can be concluded, including strong category. The more self-concept renal failure better the more it will degrade depressed patients. Suggestions for further research are further deepen research so that coverage can be more helpful in the development of science, especially in the field of health.
