  • Background: Skin problems are often occurring among people. Especially for those who are working in warm and humid climate as well as with poor individual self-hygiene. One of occupations vulnerable to skin problems is farmer. Therefore, a research is needed to know correlation self-hygiene pattern and occurrence of skin problems among farmers. Purpose: Purpose of the research is to know correlation between self-hygiene and occurrence of skin problems among rice farmers in the working region of Puskesmas Cawas I of Kelurahan Nanggulan, Kecamatan Cawas, Klaten Regency. Method: The research is a quantitative-nonexperimental one, namely an analytical survey with cross-sectional design. Population of the research is all rice farmers and farming workers of Kelurahan Nanggulan amounting to 767 individuals. Sample is 89 respondents taken by using a stratified random sampling technique with proportional random sampling. Results: Data analysis of the research indicated that 73 respondents (82.0%) had good self-hygiene and 16 respondents (18%) had poor self-hygiene. Fifty eight (65.2%) of the respondents had skin problems and 31 respondents (34.8%) had no skin problems. Results of Crosstab showed a significant correlation between self-hygiene pattern and occurrence of skin problems with p value of 0.0001 and X2 = 10.426. Conclusion: A correlation between self-hygiene pattern and occurrence of skin problems is found among rice farmers in the working region of Puskesmas Cawas I of Kelurahan Nanggulan, Kecamatan Cawas, Klaten Regency. Self-hygiene must be paid attention because various diseases can be caused by poor self-hygiene.
