Daftar Isi:
- Upper respiratory tract infection (URI) consists of several diseases such as common cold, rhinitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis, epiglottitis, and otitis media. Treatment of URI’s patients uses antibiotic therapy. Giving the appropriate antibiotic determine the success of therapy and avoid bacterial resistance. This study was aimed to compare the appropriateness of antibiotic use in URI’s adult patients at Dr. Moewardi Regional General Hospital Outpatient Installation in 2008 and 2014. This study is a retrospectively descriptive research design. Samples were taken from 66 patients by purposive sampling method. This research was conducted by evaluating the appropriateness of antibiotics use based on several parameters such as appropriateness of indication, patient, drug, dose and be adapted by standard therapies from WHO in 2001 and the percentage of correct use of antibiotics in 2008 compared to 2014. The results showed that major antibiotics used are amoxicillin (37.87%), ciprofloxacin (75.25%), and cefadroxil (10.6%). The appropriateness of antibiotics use in 2014 showed the percentage of appropriateness of indication was 86.36%, 100% for appropriateness of patient, 39.39% for appropriateness of drug, and 92.42% for appropriateness of dose. Comparison of the appropriateness of the use of antibiotics in 2008 to 2014 showed an increase. Based on precise indication parameter showed an increase of 6.36%, the exact parameters of the patients showed an increase of 20%, the exact parameters of the drug showed a percentage increase of 17.97%, and at the proper dose parameters showed a significant increase in the percentage of 75.28 %.
