- Garcinia mangostana L. is a source plant from mangosteen fruit which contains α-mangosteen in its peel that has amtioxidant activity. An antioxidant agent has benefit to destruct free radical reactions. This study aimed to determine the combination effect of citric acid and tartaric acid to flow properties of the granules, physical characteristic of tablet, taste respond of tablet, and antioxidant activity of effervescent tablet of mangosteen peel extract. 5 formulas of effervescent tablet were made by the different comparison of citric acid and tartaric acid. In formula I used citric acid and sodium bicarbonate 4,5:4,5. Then, formula II until IVwere made by ratio of citric acid, tartaric acid, and sodium bicarbonate as followed 3:1,5:4,5; 2,25:2,25:4,5; 1,5:3:4,5; and also formula V was made by ratio of tartaric acid and sodium bicarbonate 4,5:4,5. The used method was wet granulation. The flow properties of the granules were tested and compressed. Then, the physical characteristic and taste responds of the compressed granules were also tested. DPPH method was used as antioxidant activity test. The combination of citric acid and tartaric acid did not show significant effect to flow time of granules, but showed the physical characteristic effect of tablet. The higher tartaric acid concentration was used, the more friable the table was and also the dissolving time of tablet was faster. Meanwhile, the higher citric acid concentration was used, the more tasteful the tablet was. The antioxidant activity test results obtained that all of effervescent tablet formulas of mangosteen peel extract still had the activity more than 50% and the formula I was the highest.
