- Bauhinia varigata L. commonly used by people, especially people from Sumba - NTT as one of the plant that can be used to heal the problem of toothache by means of a decoction of the bark is used for rinsing. The aim of this research is to determine the antibacterial activity of the stem bark of Bauhinia L. varigata against bacteria that causes problems in the mouth. The experiment was performed by maceration of the stem bark with 70% ethanol and infundation method with water. The extract obtained was tested in Streptococcus mutants. Antibacterial activity test was done by using disk diffusion method, then proceed with the determination of the compounds using tube test , Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) and bio-autography test. The results showed that Bauhinia varigata had antibacterial activity on the bacteria Streptococcus mutans caused dental caries began a concentration of 2% w/v unlimitedness contained saponins, alkaloids and tannins were used tube test.
