- Dates are a type of fruit has been shown to be rich iron. Iron is required in the formation of heme that can increased haemoglobin levels. This research was conducted to prove the effect of ajwa date (Phoenix dactylifera L.) extract on haemoglobin level in pregnant mice (Mus musculus). The research population was 24 of pregnant mice used in this study were divided into four groups (each group consisted of 6 animals) including: control group (P0), treatment group 3 (P1), treatment group 5 (P2), treatment group 7 (P3). The control group was given sterile distilled water, while the treatment group was given extract with different dose, ie 3.12 mg / kg BW (P1), 5.2 mg / kg BW (P2), and 7.28 mg / kg BW (P3). Giving of date extract is done on day 14 until day 18 of pregnancy (for 5 days). Surgery performed on day 19 of pregnancy (on ventral incision). Statistical analysis using ANOVA test. The results showed a tendency increase in average haemoglobin levels along with the amount of dose given. Increased hemoglobin levels due to iron in the date fruit can synthesize the formation of heme which can trigger hemoglobin levels. In addition, the presence of flavonoid and tannin compounds that act as immunostimulator production of erythropoietin for hematopoiesis. However, this increase based on ANOVA test results showed no difference or not significant (p> 0.05). This is presumably because other than as an immunostimulator, tannin compounds also act as an inhibiting factor of iron absorption.
