- English is one of the international languages which is spoken almost everywhere people for communication. Speaking becomes the primary subject of every English teaching. Many English teachers still get difficulties to find the strategy or technique to encourage students to speak. Jigsaw will facilitate students to learn and practice the language. They learn in a relaxed atmosphere, therefore jigsaw could be used as an alternative technique in teaching speaking. This study was conducted in SMA HANG TUAH 2 Sidoarjo and the subjects were the first grade students. The researcher was done to find out the answer of the three research questions. States by the researcher in this thesis: (1) How can jigsaw technique be implemented in the teaching speaking, (2) How are the students’ responses after jigsaw technique be implemented, (3) How are the progress of the students speaking competence after jigsaw technique be implemented. The researcher used collaborative classroom action research to obtain information concerning to the students’ speaking competence. The data in the study was gotten from the results of observation checklist, questionnaire and the students’ score in every meeting. The results of the study which can answer the research question above. For question number 1, the result was: the teaching and learning process when jigsaw technique was applied could be done maximally, but there were some students who could not control their self to make noisy in the classroom. For question number 2, the result was: 97, 72 % students answer that they like jigsaw technique as a technique in teaching speaking and they hoped that jigsaw technique could be applied in their school after the research finished. For question number 3, the result was: the students can improve their score in speaking subject. Their score improved in every meeting. From the explanation above, we can conclude that jigsaw technique as a technique which was chosen to improve the students’ speaking competence in SMA HANG TUAH 2 sidoarjo could be success.
