Using CALL technique in task-based learning to teach reading at the second grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Surabaya

- This thesis is an attempt to reveal the implementation of Using CALL in taskĀ based learning to teaching reading, whether or not it can increase the students' comprehension competence in reading skill. There are two problems of the study in this research, is CALL technique in task-based learning effective to teach reading skill, what are the students responses to the implementation of CALL in task-based learning. Based on a classroom action research, this research was carried out at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Surabaya, particularly to the second grade students in the first semester year 2010-2011. There were 33 students. The researcher implemented this strategy through three cycles. The difference betwen these cycles was on the topic. In each cycle, there are pJaanning, implemention, observing and reflecting. For answering the problem, the researcher used instruments such as the observation checklists, field notes, questionaire, and test From the result of study, it can be seen that The student's progress during the reading learning process by using CALL in task-based learning is well confirmed. The students' reading skill in English can be improved. It can be supported by seeing the result of the pretest, first cycle, second cycle, third cycle, and post test In each test the students score always improved. In pre-test students have '47, 63% that is lower than the result of second cycle (69, 39%) that is lower than that of third cycle (83.03%). In the post-test the students got higher score (91.81%). Most of students assert that the activities in learning process by using CALL in task-based learning in teaching reading could help them in comprehending of reading text. The students' motivation in learning process is better than before, as the result of test and the result of questionaire shows. The main factor affecting this success are the students interested in the learning activity by using CALL in task-based learning to teaching reading, the method is new for the students, this method given more knowledge and more activities. The method of using CALL in task-based learning process are very pleasing for the student. This method is necessary for the learning process. Finally, based on the data, the researcher concludes that this method gives useful contribution to the learning process. This study suggestes that using CALL in task-based learning to teaching reading is rcomended for the English teacher.
