  • Putri Malu has widely used by people as a cure for kidney stones disorders, respiratory tract inflammation, anti microbial agent, expectorant, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and diuretic. However, Mimosa microphylla D., a species of Putri Malu is rarely been studied. Moreover, there are few literatures, especially regarding its sedation activity when compared with Mimosa pudica L. Therefore, this experiment was conducted to study the potential sedation effects of Mimosa microphylla D. herb extract in Swiss webster mice. Mimosa microphylla D. herb was extracted by maceration with ethanol 96% and administered tp 25 male Swiss webster mice which divided into 5 groups of 600 mg/kgBW, 1200 mg/kgBW, and 2400 mg/kgBW dose. This study was performed using several methods: holeboard, evasio box, platform, rotarod, sleep induction test, and test of sleep duration, and phenobarbital was used as the positive control 30 mg/kgBW. The treatment dose 600 mg/kgBW of ethanol extract of Mimosa microphylla D. herb has the potent sedative activity and dose of 1200 mg/kgBW of mice were able to extend the sleep duration time, but ethanol extracts of Mimosa microphylla D. herb was not shorten the sleep inducing time of mice. The ethanol extract of Mimosa microphylla D. herb has sedative activitty, extend the time duration of sleep, but not able to shorten the sleep induction time.
