The translation techniques of the Directive Utterances found in the Green Book Movie

- This research aimed at describing the kinds of directive utterances found in the Green Book movie and to explain the translation techniques used in translating directive utterances in the Green Book movie. Directive utterances occur if the speaker can control the listener's actions. There are three kinds of directive utterance namely command, request and suggestion. In this study, the researcher uses Kreidler’s theory of speech acts and Molina & Albir’s theory of translation techniques. This research is considered qualitative research and the data collection technique used here is document analysis method. All of the data are found in subtitles of Green Book movie. The analysis shows that there are 152 data found in this research. Command translated by single variant is 26. Command translated by couplet variant is 48. Command translated by triplet variant is 16. Command translated by four variant is 3. Request translated by single variant is 9, request translated by couplet variant is 27, request translated by triplet variant is 3, request translated by four variant is 1, suggestion translated by couplet variant 12 and suggestion translated by triplet variant is 5. In this study, most of the subtitles are translated by the couplet variant with 87 data, then the single variant with 35 data, after that triplet variant 24 data and the fourth variant with 4 data. The researcher noted that the translator in this movie tended to use reduction + established equivalent as translation techniques.
