- Nowadays, English is more widely used as an international language. In Indonesia, people now are already aware that English is important for children’s future. However, some people do not really agree to the practice of teaching English at elementary school as there are two different opinions. This study aimed at revealing the perception of the society towards English at elementary school. The research design of this study was a survey. A set of questionnaire consisted of two types of questions, 10 multiple choice questions and 3 open-ended questions was distributed to 100 respondents from the society living in Surabaya. The writer choose the respondents randomly for her questionnaire The study revealed that the society had positive perception on English at Elementary School. They agree that English is taught at elementary school for the children’s future. It could be concluded that the society has a positive perception on English at elementary school.
