  • As an international language, English is chosen as the first foreign language taught in Indonesian schools. Children until teens learn English in their schools, and courses. Not only children or teens but adult also learn English. They study English at universities and English courses. The aims of this study are to find out the UNIKA Soegijapranata Faculty of Letters students’ belief about learning a foreign language, to figure out learners’ belief about the nature of English language learning, and students’ belief about communication strategies. The writer used quantitative research and descriptive studies, and used the questionnaire as a means of data collection which was then processed using SPSS 16. The questionnaires were distributed to 80 students of UNIKA Soegijapranata Faculty of Letters as respondents.The results of the research show that: (1) Learners have positive beliefs about learning a foreign language. (2) Learners have positive beliefs about the nature of English language learning. (3) Learners have positive beliefs about communication strategies. Keywords : foreign language, beliefs
