THE STUDY OF POLITENESS STRATEGIES IN THE FACULTY OF LETTERS SOEGIJAPRANATA CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY

- This research focuses on the politeness strategies used in the conversation between the administration staffs to students and the students to the administration staffs in the Faculty of Letters Soegijapranata Catholic University. This research also compares the usage of politeness strategies between them. Besides, this research also describes about the politeness strategies which are used by the administration staffs and the students. The analysis of politeness strategies is based on Brown and Levinson’s theory. The writer recorded the conversation between the administration staffs to students and the students to the administration staffs. The result of this research shows that both the administration staffs and the students use more positive politeness strategies than negative politeness strategies. This means that both of them are close. This is shown by the use of the positive politeness strategies which shows intimacy (Brown and Levinson, 1987, pp. 103).
