A Study of English Public Speaking Anxiety Among Englishpreneurship Students in Soegijapranata Chatolic University

- The purpose of this study is to determine the level of anxiety and the factors that cause speaking anxiety of Englishpreneurship students at the Faculty of Language and Arts, Soegijapranata Catholic University, Semarang. The participants of this study were 33 students. In collecting data, the researcher used two methods namely the quantitative method and the qualitative method related to the research questions. The objectives of this study are “To find out the anxiety level of Englishpreneurship Students in Soegijapranata Catholic University” and “To find out the contributing factors which trigger the Englishpreneurship Students’ anxiety in Soegijapranata Catholic University”. The researcher distributed a questionnaire of 21 questions that had been validated and reliabilitated using the SPSS application. In finding the level of student anxiety, the researcher used an Excel application. Then for the qualitative method, the researcher conducted interviews with 10 students as respondents with the aim of confirming the results of their answers and data from the questionnaire. The questions used in the interview are a summary of questions from the questionnaire. All data have been analyzed descriptively and interpreted. From the results of data analysis, the researcher found three main factors that caused students to be anxious in speaking English. The factors are communication apprehension, fear of negative evaluation and test anxiety. This study suggests that lecturers, parents and friends should be able to know the factors of anxiety, be a supporter and understand what students feel without comparing them with others
