- The service learning approach was chosen to be implemented in the Family Health Psychology subject because it facilitates students to have direct interaction with the community. It is expected that the learning model has greater impact on students academically, personally and socially. The students were grouped in two or three to work with a family for at least in two days. At the end of the program the students had to do and report personal and academic reflection. It was found that service learning method was effective in developing students academically, personall, and socially. The personal and social development includes awareness of his/her own condition, social empathy, and eagerness to do something for the family/community and for themselves. The students believe that contact with the family/community helped them understand theories they learned in the classroom more easily. It was also found that the students have made some efforts to and successfully implement their plan. On the basis of the findings it is recommended that service learning method is developed and implemented continuously.
