  • This research focuses on the reticence that the students of the Faculty of Language and Arts in Soegijapranata Catholic University have during the class of Speaking of Group Interaction. The writer felt interested in finding the factors that causes the students to be reticent during the class. This study used quantitative method. The writer used questionnaire given to 57 respondents who are currently joining the class of Speaking for Group Interaction. The writer found that during different class activities, they have different level of reticence. In the daily activities, there were 6 factors that cause the students to be reticent in the class. They are I am nervous when talking, I stumble over my words, I muddle my words, I lose sight of what I want to say when talking, my thoughts are disorganized, and also my thoughts are jumbled. During the mid-test, there were 7 factors that make the students become unwilling to participate. They are I am nervous when talking, I feel tense when talking, I stumble over my words, I forget what I want to say when talking, I lose sight of what I want to say when talking, my thoughts are disorganized, and also my thoughts are jumbled. During the final test, there were 4 factors which cause reticence. They are I am nervous when talking, I feel tense when talking, I stumble over my words, and also I muddle my words.
