  • The construction of PT Semen Indonesia of Rembang, Central Java, caused a long-running dispute. Locals of North Kendeng area (Rembang) rejected the cement plant because they argued it would disrupt the environment and social life quality as well. Various actions had been done to express the rejection and one of them was Lamporan. Lamporan was traditional ritual of North Kendeng mountain conducted by local farmers of the area to reject reinforcements. The objectives of this research were to know the procession of the ritual communication of as well as the community‟s rejection toward cement plant construction. This research was also to know how the locals interpret Lamporan ritual procession to reject the cement plant construction. This research discussed the Lamporan ritual as a rejection action in terms of ritual communication by applying symbolic interactionism‟s study. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative describing Lamporan ritual procession as an original community‟s behavior of the community‟s in facing a social problem. In terms of ritual communication, Lamporan ritual was an internalization process to present or represent society beliefs as farmers society that will create self confidence and unite the objective of rejecting cement plant. Media used were symbols in ritual that embed values in society. Symbol of cement plant was pest that should be exterminated. Lamporan ritual was a resistance action from cultural side toward cement plant. Keywords: communication, ritual communication, Lamporan
