- Movie is a recorder sequence of picture or video displayed on a screen with sufficient rapidity to show the continuity of illusion. Movie is created to entertain the audience. In this study, the writer helps the readers to understand about the film narrative through the application of Tzvetan Todorov’s narrative theory in the 500 Days of Summer movie. 500 Days of Summer tells about a woman named Summer that is loved by a man named Thom. Thom truly hopes he can be Summer’s boyfriend, but did not want to make a relationship with Thom. This situation makes Thom disappointed to Summer. 500 Days of Summer have a non linear plot. The writer helps the readers to comprehend 500 Days of Summer plot by using Tzevtan Todorov narrative theory. Tzevtan Todorov’s theory includes, equilibrium, disruption of equilibrium, recognition of the disorder, attempt to repair the damage, and restoration. This thesis proved that Tzvetan Todorov narrative theory can be used in a movie that has non linear plot.
