- River is a stream of water on the surrface of the earth that flows from upstream to downstream. Batanghari River is the longest river on the island of Sumatra. In the past, the Batanghari river was a trade route for several major kingdoms. Then used by the community to meet their daily needs such as bathing, washing, and others. The river has an important role until finally it cannot be used anymore because it has been polluted by waste. One that pollutes is fertilizer waste from oil palm plantations, this is because when it rains the fertilizer thta is not absorbed by the oil palm plants is carried away by the flow of water towards the river. Polluted rivers can have a negative impacy, namely environmoental damage and disease. The purpose of this study is to find out how protection and constraint protect the Batanghari River. To find data will be conducted interviews and literature study, after which the result abtaibed will be analyzed usinng the inductive method. Several effort have been made by the authorities, including a Batanghari River clean job program, water quality monitoring, a complaint box and the imposition of sanctions for those who pollute river water. But in the reality this effort has not been implemented properly due to several consrainta related to data, budget, and river data as well as the number of plantations
