- UKL UPL is a document used for activities and/or businesses that do not have a significant impact on the environment. The role of the Department of the Environment is very important to prevent pollution and environmental damage. The Department of the Environment of has a supervisory function following the applicable laws. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of the Department of the Environment in the supervision of UKL-UPL in the city of Yogyakarta and what the obstacles were. The type of research used is empirical legal research, research will tend to look at existing social facts, through interviews with sources or respondents to obtain primary and secondary data. The role of the Department of the Environmental in the UKL-UPL document has basically been carried out during the process of making the UKL-UPL document, besides that direct supervision can be carried out if there are reports from residents regarding environmental damage originating from activities and/or businesses that are required to have UKL-UPL.
