- Judges have a special duty given by the law, namely to help the head of the court to oversee the implementation of court sentence known as supervisory judge. In reality, the implementation of this duty of the supervisory judge is yet to be optimal. There is a legal problem in this research, namely How to optimize the role of supervisory judge in the execution of court sentence of Yogyakarta State Court and the development of prisoners? This legal research is an empirical legal research that focuses on social facts, and the data were collected through interviews and literature studies. The conclusion of this research is that the supervisory judge of Yogyakarta State Court on doing special duties is yet to be optimal due to a supervisory judge must supervise on 4 prisons. In addition, the report of supervision have not been optimally utilized. It is therefore suggested to appoint judge to do such job without any additional job and to regulate the minimal supervisory judge personel in each court.
