- The Syrian refugee crisis that strucked the European Union in 2015 is of particular concern to the international community. Some European countries made policy by refusing the presence of refugees. Responding to the situation the government of German issued a policy that is “ the open door policy” for the refugees. The purpose of this thesis is to know the influence of open door policy toward Syrian refugee protection in Europian Union country relates to International Refugee law. The research used literature research methods and data sources used are primary and secondary data from international agreements, other legal opinions as well as data on the development of Syrian refugee protection presented by the Government of German through BAMF or Federal Office for Immigration and Refugees. The data were analyzed by descriptive method of analysis and concluded by deductive method. Based on data analysis, it can be concluded that the open door policy conducted by Germany is in accordance with International Refugee law principle, 1951 Convention concerning Refugee Status and Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This research shows that the policy is also an effort to support the development of non-refoulment principle implementation.
