- The present study attempted to address some of the practical issue facing financial performance between general insurance who's owned by private and public. The research design employed to study differential performance between insurance that managed by public owned and private owned The financial performance measured by conventional ratio, contemporary ratio and some of specific ratio that reflected by early warning system. The private insurance that will be observed is a company who's traded on Jakarta Stock Exchange between periods 1996-2000. The result suggest that, in periods 1996-2000, in general public insurance have a better performance than private insurance exceptionally on Management expense ratios. Some financial indicator reflect that no differences financial performance between public and private insurance.
