- Software project scheduling is the heart of project management. It is the core of the project plan. It is used by the project manager to make commitments among the project team to do the project tasks, and to describe how the work will be performed. Schedules are used to communicate final deadlines and to determine resource needs. It sets the project done under control. Many project managers create their project schedules manually, by draw it on papers or spreadsheets, but it can be very difficult and inaccurate, because they have a lot of time and resources constraints. As the project schedule runs, it needs a control mechanism to make sure that all progress are still running on their baseline – the tracking mechanism, that is called software project tracking. The purpose of software project tracking is to provide adequate visibility into actual progress so that project managers can take effective actions to overcome the project problems.
