  • Asean Free Trade Area (AFTA) is conducted by countries in ASEAN area. Hence, every nation in ASEAN is not allowed to hinder the influx of goods, services, and workforce from otherASEAN countries. The realization of AFTA gives a lot of benefits, such as cheaper goods and services, more competent workforce, etc. However, AFTA also give a number of disadvantages; for example, if a country is fundamentally not ready, then “economic colonialization” will appear, in which a strong country will control other countries. Noticing the positive and negative sides of AFTA, the Indonesian government needs to consider and prepare themselves in order to compete in AFTA. The method of this research is deductive, starting from the analysis of the regulation used to arrange the mattersmentioned above. This legal research is based on library research or secondary data available. On the other hand, normative research refers to legal research done to gain normative knowledge about the relation between one regulation and another as well as its application. Observing the readiness of Indonesia in terms of socio-economy, and culture, and in particular referring to the existing regulation, Indonesia is not ready to face AFTA. There are several ways the government can do to overcome the unreadiness of Indonesia to face AFTA; however, they are not easy. Therefore, they must make great efforts to face AFTA.
