Daftar Isi:
  • ABSTRACT Medical students generally have a busy schedule of activities so they tend to pay less attention on diet and the food they eat. Though adequate nutrition is very important for the initiation and maintenance of reproductive capacity. Energy imbalance due to excess or insufficient fat intake could also cause menstrual cycle disorders. This study aims to determine the relationship between body fat percentage and body mass index (BMI) on the menstrual cycle of Faculty of Medicine Udayana University female medical students. This study was a cross-sectional study conducted in July 2020 on 44 female students of the Undergraduate Medical and Professional Doctor Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University. The data taken is primary data. The history of menstrual cycle disorders was taken using a questionnaire and anthropometric measurements using a measuring instrument that has been adjusted to the accuracy. Nutritional status was measured using BMI, while body fat percentage used relative fat mass (RFM). Data were analyzed by using Fisher's Exact Test and Phi correlation test (?). Most of the respondents had a normal menstrual cycle (93.2%), a normal BMI (77.3%), and a normal body fat percentage (54.5%). Based on the Fisher's Exact Test statistical test, it was found that there was a significant relationship between BMI against the menstrual cycle (p = 0.009) with sufficient strength of the relationship between BMI to menstrual cycle (? = 0.499). Meanwhile, there was no significant relationship between the percentage of body fat and the menstrual cycle (p = 0.086). We can conclude that there is a relationship between BMI and the menstrual cycle and there is no relationship between the percentage of body fat on the menstrual cycle in female medical students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Udayana.
