Comparation of Antifungi Ability Between Clove essential oil (Eugenia aromatica) with Cananga essential oil (Canangium odoratum Baill) Toward Candida albicans by In Vitro Laboratory

- Background : Candida albicans is a normal flora in several mucosa layers in the body that has oppurtunistic caracter, so in some circumstances it can be pathogenic. Today, the tendency is using the traditional remedies as antifungi is raising one of them is a plant that contain essential oil. Kinds of the plant that contain essential oil and these are comonly used by poeple are clove ( Eugenia aromatica) and cananga ( Canangium odoratum baill). Essential oil in clve and cananga (ylang-ylang)are expected to have the antifungi ability toward Candida albicans fungus. Subject : This research is conducted to know the ability of antifungi in clove oil and ylang ylang oil toward the growht of Candida albicans fungus and to know which are that has less concentration inhibiting or killing Candida albicans. Method : This reseach is experimental laboratory research that use in vitro test. The method thait is used is liquid dilution by measuring Mininimum Inhibitory (MIC) and Minimum Bacterisidal Concentration (MBC) of the clove oil and and ylang-ylang oil toward the growht of Candida albicans fungus. The tecnique was by creating some serial dilution of test material with the concentration of 40%, 20%, 10%, 5% 2,5%, 1,25%, dan 0,625%. This research was done in five times test. Result : From five times test, it is obtained that MIC and MBC clove oil toward the growht Candida albicans fungus is 1,25%. Whereas the ylang-ylang oil does not have MIC and MBC toward the Candida albicans in concentration 0,625%, 1,25%, 2,5%, 5%, 10%, 20%, and 40%. Conclusion : Clove oil has antifungi ability toward Candida albicans fungus with MIC and MBC 1,25%. Whereas ylang-ylang does not have antifungi ability in concentration that are tested. The ability of clove oil inhibiting and killing the Candida albicans is better than ylang-ylang oil.
