  • A distributor plate is one of the components of bubbling fluidized bed drying model for coffee berries. This plate has a primary function to distribute the fluidizing air uniformly over the cross section of the bed. A straight hole distributor plate has been designed for the model with maximum capacity of 10 kg of coffee berries. The variables of design consist of the thickness and orifice diameter. An attempt to obtain different number of orifice for different variation has been made. The investigation was conducted for a capacity of coffee berries sample of 7 kg with the initial moisture content of 60%. In order to figure out the effect of the thickness and orifice diameter to constant rate period of drying, the berries were dried till the moisture content of 12%. The results show that the distributor plate with thickness of 0.5 mm and orifice diameter of 10 mm with number of orifice is 171 has the maximum average drying rate of 6729 kg/hr.m2 and the length of drying is 9 hours.
