  • The recirculation area behind the pipe of a circular finned tube heat exchanger plays a very important role on heat transfer and fluid pumping power. This region is performed by the combination effect of a pipe flow separation and a downstream positive pressure gradient. The flow mechanism of this such recirculation area has a negative effect on the heat transfer process of the fin surfaces, therefore some researchers made an effort to minimize this wake area. The result of seoararion point measurements on fin surfaces of some configuration of circular finned tube arrangement will be presented in this paper, including the effect of fin spaces, pipe longitudinal distance, and pipe arrangements (inline and straggered). The measurement is conducted by using chemical polarographic method in a chemically and thermally inert water tunnel. The results indices that these three variables influenced the position of separation points in a different ways.
