- The purpose of this research is to determine the function of repong damar at Coastal Communities in Karya Penggawa sub district, Pesisir Barat District. The method used in this study is functional while the data analysis technique is qualitative data and data collection techniques used is the technique of participant observation , interviews , documentation and literature. From the results of this study, it concluded that there are two functions damar. In terms of production ( economic ) is inseparable from the role of the community take advantage of both of gum damar ( resin ) as the main crops. Seeing the terms of ecology ( conservation ) indicates that damar is a biotic ecosystem depend on each other .Tujuan dalam penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui fungsi repong damar pada Masyarakat Pesisir di Kecamatan Karya Penggawa Kabupaten Pesisir Barat. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode fungsional sedangkan teknik analisis datanya adalah data kualitatif dan teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah teknik observasi partisipan, wawancara, dokumentasi dan studi pustaka. Dari hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa fungsi repong damar ada dua. Dari segi produksi (ekonomi) tidak terlepas dari peranan masyarakat memanfaatkan repong damar baik dari getah (resin) sebagai tanaman utama. Melihat dari segi ekologi (konservasi) menunjukkan bahwa repong damar merupakan sebuah ekosistem biotik yang saling bergantung satu sama lain.Kata kunci : masyarakat pesisir, repong, repong damar
