  • This research was aimed to determine the vegetative character of roots and shoot of several tomato varieties to aluminum on nutrient culture media. This research was conducted in the greenhouse at Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara from December 2017 until February 2018. This study used Factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with varieties factor (V1 = Timothy Variety; V2 = Fortuna Variety; V3 = Pandawa Lima Variety; V4 = Citra Asia Variety; V5 = Trico Variety) and aluminum concentration (0 g; 1.5 g; 3.0 g). Parameters of this research include plant height, root length, relative root length, fresh and dry weight of root, fresh and dry weight of shoot, dry weight relative of root and shoot, and root volume of tomato plants. Data analysis using IBM SPSS Statistics v.20. The results showed that timoty varieties (V1) very significant differences in plant height, fresh weight of root, fresh weight of shoot, dry weight of root, relative root length and significant effect to root volume on nutrient culture media. Treatment aluminum to nutrient culture media showed very significant difference to plant height, root length, fresh weight of root, dry weight of root, dry weight of shoot, root volume, relative root dry weight, and significant effect to relative shoot dry weight. The treatment Al 3 g shows the lowest value on all variables.
