- ABSTRAK. Manusia adalah makhluk sosial yang perlu berinteraksi dengan makhluk lain untuk keberlangsungan hidupnya. Tetapi manusia sebagai individu juga memerlukan privasi atau mengatur jarak personalnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) Mendapatkan gambaran tentang privasi pada rumah-rumah di Kota Lama Kudus; (2) Mengungkapkan konsep privasi pada rumah-rumah di Kota Lama Kudus. Dapat disimpulkan dari penelitian ini didapatkan bahwa konsep privasi khas pada rumah-rumah di Kota Lama Kudus pada intinya adalah kontrol interaksi yang bersifat profan (antar sesama manusia) dan sakral (manusia dengan Tuhannya). Konsep privasi ini terkait erat dengan faktor transendental keIslaman dan sebagian lain mendapat pengaruh dari konsep Jawa. Kata kunci : privasi, konsep, rumah ABSTRACT. Human beings are social creatures who need to interact with other creatures to survive. But human beings as individuals also need to set up a private space as well as personal space. This study is aimed to: (1) Obtain an overview of privacy of the houses in Kota Lama Kudus, (2) Disclose the concept of privacy in the houses in Kota Lama Kudus. It can be concluded from this study that it has been found that the concept of privacy typical of the houses in Kota Lama Kudus is its core which is the control of interaction that are profane (among humans) and sacred (human with God). The concept of privacy is closely associated with Islamic transcendental factors and others are influenced by the concept of Java. Keywords: privacy, concept, house
