  • In many projects of civil building, the corrosion of reinforcing bars occurs when they are placed in open area. The corrosion of steel is caused by O2, H2SO4 and MgSO4. The objective of this research is to observe the influence corrosion of reinforcing bars used in reinforced concrete beam in shear rupture. This research was an experimental method and used sulphate acid (H2SO4) as a medium of corrosion process. The reinforcing bars used had a diameter of 6, 10 and 12 mm that were corroded for 2 weeks, 4 weeks and 6 weeks in sulphate acid solution. Preliminary test had been conducted to know the corrosion velocity, the weight and diameter reinforcing bar reductions. Then, the corroded reinforcing bars were casted into 12 concrete beams which had a dimension of 15 cm x 20 cm x 160 cm. The shear test was applied to these samples. The results show that corrosion velocity increase in 4 weeks; but it decreases in 6 weeks. The rate of weight and diameter reinforcing bars reductions also increases. The result of shear rupture test of reinforced are 6.41 % for 2 weeks, 8.97 % for 4 weeks and 9.40 % for 6 weeks. This research proves that corrosive reinforcing bar process can increase the shear rupture of reinforced concrete beam.
