- The research on the use of city garbage to improve chemical substance of ricefield land to increase the quality of rice was done on April up to December 2007, in Kramat Selatan village, Magelang Utara Subdistrict, Mage!angCity, in a ricefield land with PH 5,6 and the height of 360 m above the surface of the sea water. This research used factorial design that was done randomly. Thefirst factor, the dosage of NPKfertilizer is without NPK (KO): -[5 kg N, 22,5 kg P205 and 20 kg K2o per Ha (kl) ; 90 kg N, 45 kg P2o5 and 40 kg K20 (K2). The second factor, the dosage of Shikantanfertilizer is 0 ton/ha (SO); 1,5 ton /ha (5)1) and 3 tonlha (S2). The result of the research shows that the use of NPK increases the height of plant, the number of productive young plants, the weight of dry rice per cluster, the weight of dry per meter, the degree of rice protein, and the percentage of broken rice, but it decreases the weight of 1000 sun dry rice, the percentage of Beras fCepala (Head Rice), green seed and calcified seed. The use of Shikantan increases the degree of rice protein and decreases green and calcified seed. The use of NPK appropriately (90 kg N, 45 kg P205 40m kg K20) with adding 1,5 ton of Shikantan each hectare tends to give the best result with the weight of GKP per m2 degree of rice protein, percentage of green seed and the percentage of calcified seed Keywords: chemical substance, the use of the dosage offertilizer
