- The tensile strength is one of the very important mechanical properties of composite materials are strongly influenced by the style of belt between fiber and matrix. This research seeks to improve the style of belt between coir fiber matrixes with alkali treatment using fiber before it is used. Alkali treatment is done by performing a fiber coir soaking in a solution of NaOH 5% for (2, 4, 6, 8) hours. After being washed and dried coconut coir fibers are used as amplifiers at a 60% polyester matrix composite. The results obtained from the research on tensile test that by doing the soaking solution into coir fiber 5% NaOH for a 2 hour experience price optimal tensile strength value 21,075 MPa. It is also evident from the results of cross section fault macro photo, which occurs composite fracture for soaking time of 6 hours and 8 hours, has a tensile fibers shorter and a little at a time soaking for 2 hours and 4 hours, type of brittle fracture
