- Compression is used to reduce the required bit size in order to make the audio data in a file smaller. Haar Wavelet transformation is used to rid off noise, while Huffman Coding is used as a compression tool as it changes the values in the data file into unique codes using Huffman Tree and encode. This reduces the size of the file and in effect requires a smaller storage to store the compressed data. A number of tests were done to test the size of the file which were compressed, the quality of the voice after being compressed and restored using Haar Wavelet level 1 and level 2 and using Huffman coding for WAV mono 8 bits file. The results of the tests prove that a combined method of Haar Wavelet level 1 and Huffman Coding with smaller threshold values produce better quality voice however the compressed file sizes are larger than ones if produced with Haar Wavelet level 2 and vice versa. This paper is published in Prosiding International Conference on Information Technology and Applied Mathematics 2012 (ICITAM 2012) Volume 1 No. 1.2012, ISSN : 2301-5403
