- Islam is believed to be the source of the value of a thorough and covers and even inspired the birth of the values that evolved in human life. This means that Islam has many roles in the public sphere. But hand in hand with the change, Islam split in schools such as Sunni, Wahabi, Shia and others where it has resulted in degradation of the role of Islam in the public sphere characterized by reduced performance Islam. After doing a qualitative research by Peter Beyer perspective and through observation in the town of Pasuruan, the study found that one of the causes degradation of Islam and privatization is globalization and ideologies born in modern society that always claim to be the most correct. Ultimately, this phenomenon should be anticipated. As a system of norms and ideologies, Islam should again be able to portray its functionality and performance so as to be free from commodification little more effort would result in degradation of the role of religion in human life.
