- Bali is one of island which has a lot of cultural diversity and local knowledge possessed. One of forest in Bali is bamboo forest located at Penglipuran village, Bangli. This study aims to reveal the wisdom of local communities in conserving Penglipuran village of bamboo forest. The research chose two issues, how the meaning of preservation of bamboo forest in Panglipuran village is and how are the forms of local wisdom in preserving Penglipuran bamboo forest. The Panglipuran people have own point of view or idea to preserve the bamboo forest. They comply with the village awig awig (rules) indigenous village which implicitly contains a prohibition on indiscriminate cutting down bamboo trees. This study also used interpretive theory of Clifford Geertz in expressing his thoughts regarding the people of Penglipuran in bamboo forest conservation. The method is used the ethnographic research methods qualitative research by conducting observation, library study and interviews in detail to Panglipuran people. In this research, there are results of two problems: first, is the symbolic meaning of bamboo forest conservation, in this case using a model of and a model for of Geertz. Second, is the shape of preservation of bamboo forest in Panglipuran village namely the existence of regulations prohibiting the public to cut down bamboo trees carelessly, their term forest Duwe are forest land owned by the village community, as well as the treatment areas of bamboo forest, so the diversity of bamboo species remains maintained continuity.
