- Design is a key activity of the project life cycle and a quality design is undeniable one of the primary factors of success in any project endeavour. A number of researches have mentioned that design factors were the main causes of rework, and also one most important risk in construction. The objective of this research is to find out the design consultant’s perceptions toward the quality of design documents and factors influencing them. The research was conducted by a way of questionnaire survey to consulting companies in Surabaya. The result shows that in overall the quality of design documents was relatively good. Meanwhile, the primary factors influencing the quality of design documents are the lack of information from the owner, insufficient time for the designing process, and the consultant’s fees. In addition, the problems of design documents quality are also influenced by other aspects, such as project characteristics, human, organization, and management factors.
