- Abstract Recently a contemporary approach to treat the caries has been adopted. Based on the principle that caries can be remineralized, non-invasive intervention has been launched on caries lesion that has not formed into cavities, using therapeutic agents to heal the lesion by replacing the lost mineral in tooth structure. The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of CPP-ACP and the combination of CPP-ACP and nanoparticle chitosan in enamel remineralizing by using EDX. Twenty four enamel specimens from impacted and extracted human molars were divided into four groups. Group I was only incubated in artificial saliva. Group II was stored in demineralizing agent. Group III was stored in demineralizing agent and then remineralized with CPP-ACP. Group IV was stored in demineralizing agent and then remineralized with combination gel CPP-ACP and nanoparticle chitosan. All specimens were evaluated by using EDX. The statistical test showed that there was no significant difference between enamels that were remineralized with CPP-ACP and combination gel CPP-ACP and nanoparticle chitosan (p> 0.05). In conclusion, CPP-ACP and combination gel CPP-ACP and nanoparticle chitosan have equally ability to increase remineralization of tooth enamel. Key words: CPP-ACP, nanoparticle chitosan, enamel remineralization Abstrak Perawatan karies saat ini dikembangkan dengan pendekatan kontemporer. Intervensi non-invasif lesi karies yang belum membentuk kavitas diperoleh dengan menggunakan bahan terapi untuk penyembuhan lesi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan efek CPP-ACP dan kombinasi gel CPP-ACP dan kitosan nanopartikel dalam remineralisasi email dengan menggunakan alat EDX. Sebanyak dua puluh empat buah sampel email gigi molar terpendam yang sudah diekstraksi dibagi menjadi empat kelompok. Kelompok I hanya diinkubasi dalam saliva buatan. Kelompok II direndam dalam larutan demineralisasi. Kelompok III direndam dalam larutan demineralisasi kemudian diaplikasi dengan gel CPP-ACP. Kelompok IV direndam dalam larutan demineralisasi kemudian diaplikasi dengan kombinasi gel CPP-ACP dan kitosan nanopartikel. Seluruh sampel diuji dengan alat EDX. Uji statistik menunjukkan tidak ada perbedaan jumlah unsur kalsium dan fosfor yang bermakna antara email yang diaplikasikan gel CPP-ACP dan kombinasi gel CPP-ACP dan kitosan (p>0,05). Sebagai kesimpulan, gel CPP-ACP dan kombinasi gel CPP-ACP dan kitosan nanopartikel memiliki kemampuan meningkatkan remineralisasi email gigi yang sama baiknya.
