The purpose of this thesis is to make a detailed identificationabout the latent and manifest function of Rumah Zakat as an Islamic philanthropic institution in itsempowerment community practices. The result of this research found a theoretical relevance whichsupport or argue the previous researches. Hal ini dilakukan, karena potensi yang sangat besardana sosial di masyarakat khususnya umat Islam. Permasalahan pokok dalam tesis ini adalahbagaimana fungsi manifes dan laten Rumah Zakat sebagai lembaga filantropi Islam dalam praktikpemberdayaan masyarakat di kota Malang? Kemudian tujuan dari tesis ini adalah mengkaji secaradetail tentang fungsi manifes dan laten Rumah Zakat sebagai lembaga filantropi Islam dalam praktikpemberdayaan masyarakat di kota Malang. Hasil penelitian ini menemukan adanya relevansi teoritikbaik dengan penelitian terdahulu yang bersifat menguatkan atau membantah. Kemudian, konsephabitus, modal, ranah yang ada di dalam Rumah Zakat menghasilkan praktik pemberdayaan masyarakatyang bersifat filantropi dan charity, yang memiliki fungsi manifes dan fungsi laten.Kata Kuncimanifes, laten, filantropi Islam, pemberdayaan masyarakat
