Only a nationthat has a strong character that is able to make itself as the nation's dignity andrespected by other nations. The desire to be the real character of a nation that haslong been embedded in the nation of Indonesia. During the reform the nation'sdesire to build character continued to flare. The desire to be a democratic nation,free from corruption, collusion and nepotism (KKN), respect and obey the law ofnations is a desirable character in the life of society, nation and state. However, thefact that there are precisely shows the opposite phenomenon. Based on this fact, thispaper would like to discuss the nation's character education. In this paper will bediscussed some of the following: problems in education, sources of local knowledge,foster environmental potential to develop local wisdom, and how to actualize thelocal wisdom as a basis for developing the nation's character education in Indonesia.
