- Abstract: Younger people should be reminded of how important spending is and how they should spend wisely in order that they can grow up to adults with proper spending habits become. This study aims to is to analyze gender differences in terms of sources of income, saving behavior, spending, and attitudes towards saving and spending among the university students in Manado, North Sulawesi. This research is Quantitative research and uses descriptive type of research where it will investigate the difference in spending and saving behavior and factors impacting saving and spending behavior for each gender.The results of this research conclude that there is no significant difference in spending and saving behavior among male and female university students in Manado. Based on analysis and comparison with previous findings, researcher has conclude three points that could cause the insignificancy first, the life stage limitations of this research, second, low level of financial literacy and equal illiteracy, and the third, the lack of spending variation compared to bigger cities in Indonesia. Related to saving-spending behavior of college students, it would be beneficial if parents encouraged their children to earn money so as to learn the ‘value of money’.
