- The aim of this research is to know the effectiveness of an information provisions for improving the skill on deciding the subject major in the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri Punung in the 2013/2014 academic year.This is an experimental research with quasi experimental design. The research design used is “Non equivalent Control Group Design”. The sample is taken from the 40 students of the tenth grade of SMA Negeri Punung in the 2013/2014 academic year which consists of 18 students in experiment group and 19 students in control group. the purposive random sampling is used to determine the sample.The technique of collecting the data is using the questionnaire about the skill on deciding the subject major which consists of 60 items. The treatment in this research is an information provision by the researcher. The data was analyzed by using the t test with SPSS 16.The result of the calculation to find out the “t” is that the value of thitung is 5.129 with the significance value 0,000 < 0,05 so that the Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, which means there is a significant difference between the result from the students before and after the treatment has been given. The mean’s posttest score of experimental group and control group before the treatment was given is 192.72 and the mean score after the treatment was given is 220.28, meanwhile the mean score of pretest on the control group is 193.89 and the posttest’ mean is 194.11. the result reveals that there is a significant improvement on the experiment group for the decision making in deciding the subject major after the treatment was given.The conclusion of this study is the information provisions are proved effective to improve the skill on deciding the subject major in the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri Punung in the 2013/2014 academic year.Keywords : information provisions, career, skill on decision making.
